(Wedensday, September 23, 2009 - ARTICLE MOVED UP IN ORDER DUE TO COMMENT ACTIVITY. SEE BELOW) The webmaster of this site has been inundated with calls and questions about whether the Saturday daytime charity poker scene will ever return to previous year's levels in attendance. As most of you know, since the April 18th cheating incident this year the attendance at Saturday afternoon charity poker tournaments has declined to about 20 players weekly. The economy has a lot to do with the low attendance, but the April 18th incident certainly didn't help.

(Saturday, September 19, 2009 @ 7:10 Chop Reached) - Congratulations to Frank W, Jack L., David T, and Stanley A. They chopped with Frank getting $1,500 and the other 3 got $1,100. Frank M. was the bubble and got $150. 26 Players entered the Extended Play Deep Stacks at the Girdletree Firehouse today. Prizes were 1st - $2,340, 2nd - $1,340, 3rd - $880 and 4th - $240.
Saturday's tournament in Girdletree was billed as an Extended Play Deep Stacks. It was a $250 Buyin with $30,000 in tournament chips and 45 minute levels. The players seem to like the longer blinds because they could play more and choose better starting hands. They played 11 handed for almost an hour and half before reaching a final table. A $5/5 game went on after the tournament. Visit Girdletree's website for a map and driving directions. www.girdletree.org/poker

Sunday, September 13, 2009 - We were informed today that the Mardela Fire Company Poker Tournament had only 19 Players a couple of reseats. Appears the problem that Willards and Mardela have continues. We hope that the Willards issue will be solved at the end of the month on September 26th with their $150 Deep Stacks, with $30,000 in chips and 30 minutes blinds throughout. Willards has decided to use our Civic Center blind structure and avoid the "shootout" complaint. Additionaly, a couple DCP staffers made it to the Rehobeth, "Poker at the Beach" poker room Friday night. It is a quaint little poker room located between the Kmart and Super G in a small stripstore shopping center. They had friendly staff who recoginzed us as first-timers, even after one of their volunteer dealers who plays the Maryland tournament circuit quite frequently spoke to us. We arrived a little after 8PM and were seated within minutes. They had two tables going and opened a third which is where we sat. But the time we left around 10:30, they had four tables going. It was nice to see several of the local Maryland tournament players playing there. A couple were from as far away as Cambridge. (Click READ MORE BELOW to see entire article)
