At first it appeared the 60 or so early players showed up at the Salisbury VFW for the Holiday Party and the food. The food hit the tables at 6:30PM and by 7PM 90+ players had registered to play tonight's (Thursday, December 17, 2009) tournament. Maybe they liked the different format, a $75 "Knockout" (Bounty) Tournament. No rebuys or addons, but reseats during the first hour and half. This webmaster left at 7:30 and there were over 100 players and several reseats. I helped Jeff setup two additional tables to accommodate the large crowd. Say it was the food, the holidays or just a great local poker playing time; the local players came out tonight (Thursday).
The Salisbury VFW has the "Best" game in town and by that I mean the best, fair and honest game you can find anywhere on the Eastern Shore. In addition to the 100+ players, the usual cash players were waiting in the wings for "room to play". Congratulations to Jeff, Bill, Joan and Cheryl for the fine food and another successful tournament. They out did themselves again and the Free food was outstanding! The VFW would like to thank the following restuarants for providing some of the great food. Ray's Shanty in Wattsville, Virginia for the oysters, raw and fried, steamed shrimp and bacon wrapped scallops, Zia's Italian Grille for the great salad, Old West Steakhouse for the meatballs and wings. The pies were homemade by Cheryl and were excellent! There are no more games at the VFW until Thursday, January 7th and then they are holding a $150 Deep Stacks on Saturday, January 9th. Happy Holidays from everyone at the Salisbury VFW and Delmarva Charity Poker! (Update: Friday, December 18, 2009) - 100 Players with 16 rebuys made for 10 places paid. But they did a 5 way chop of $750 each with the other places being paid per the payout chart. I spoke to a couple players today who "thoroughly" enjoyed last night. They spoke of the tournament format, the turnout of players and the food.

This success is a combined effort. I want to personally thank Bill King my Assistant Director. I couldn’t run these events without him. He is a true friend of mine that holds strong values to FAIRNESS and HONESTY. Joan King is the Check and Balance that keeps Bill and I straight. She is the GRIM REAPER that collects the Buy In’s, but I can assure you the payouts are 100% accurate. Many thanks, Joan. Cheryl Rantz is our SWEAT TOOTH EXPERT, she provides a bag or two of candy to take in each week and she makes the pies we have grown accustomed to enjoying. Cheryl, as I tell you often, I couldn’t do it without ya. My back up Assistant is Rick Nibblet. He helps me out of jams when work and play don’t coincide for me. Rick, thanks for being available. Jack Lewis is the club manager of the VFW who provides us with the excellent bartender staff, great short order food, cold spirits, and a neat and tidy VFW Post.
I want to give a very special THANK YOU to a few players that provide their specialties in the food industry to give us a food spread that is untouchable at CHRISTMAS: Marteen Sanchez, owner of OLD WEST STEAK HOUSE supplies the meat balls, Ray Twifford, owner of RAY’S SHANEY supplies the seafood; and Alex Bubbas, owner of ZIA’s RESTAURANT supplies the pasta and salad.
2010 is on the way in….The plans are to keep things consistent with 2009….We have plans on at least 4 Saturday Games for 2010, continue the weekly Thursday Night Games, and provide satellite games for each Civic Center Event….We look forward to seeing you on the tables…..GOOD LUCK to ALL, may you hit your flops and suck out as needed on the river…..
CHEERS,
Jeff Rantz
