Low Turn Out Still Made A Successful 4th Annual ESRPC

The 2010 4th Annual Eastern Shore Regional Poker Classic was held Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury, Maryland.  Usually the ESRPC is a two day event, this year it was held as a one day event.  The morning started off as usual with 30 Players waiting when the doors opened at 8AM for the last minute qualifiers.  By the time the Main Event started at 10AM 90 Players had entered the qualifying satellites and 18 more players were in the Main Event.  Over 60 players walked in and paid $300 at the door.  The Buyin was $250 through February 26th and $275 up until March 6th.  The Main Event started with 184 players.  The first hand started at 10:10AM, 54 players remained at the dinner break and the money was reached at 8:20PM with the last hand dealt at 10:25PM.  When play concluded the blinds were $100,000/$200,000 with a $10,000 ante with 12 minutes before the $150,000/$300,000 level.  The prizes were 1st, $12,000; 2nd $7,000; 3rd $3,600, 4th $2,500; 5th, $2,000; 6th, $1,600; 7th, $1,200; 8th, $1,000; 9th, $800, 10th, $600; 11 -15th, $400, 16 – 18th, $350 and 19th Place was $250.  There was no bubble because the 20th and 21st place went out on the same hand and we didn’t get their names.

They started discussing a chop at nine players and as each spot was eliminated the chop discussion became heavier.  They finally chopped when they got down to four players.  The chip leader, who only had $300,000 more then second place won $10,000 (took $9,500) and the remaining three took $5,033 (took $4,900) each.  Between the four players they left $900 for the volunteer tournament staff.   Most players seemed to enjoy the $40,000 in starting chips and the 30 minute blind format.  There were $7.4 million in chips in play.

In other news for the event, there were six cash games going deep into the night.  Including a $10/20 limit dealer’s choice (Omaha/Hold'em) and several $1/2 No-limit games and a $5/5 No-limit game.  The $5/5 game had over $12,000 in chips in play when they cashed out.  Although you don't know what one player had invested, he cashed out $3,700.  Due to the low turnout the 2nd Chance Tournament turned into a 3 table SNG with only 30 players.  It got started at 4:30PM and the last hand was dealt at 10:30PM.  They did a 7 way chop.

1st - James Rogers, Jr., Baltimore, MD - $10,000 ($2.7 million in chips)

Looking forward to reading the entire article. I placed in the Main Event but barely got my money back. However the tournament was great! Another fine job Jeff and his crew. I think the number of players was just right. The $40,000 starting chips was great and the blind structure was good. The floor staff kept the tables moving and although I only saw one floor decision needed when I was playing, it was prompt and right on. My only complaint was the food. The meatloaf was dry and could they spare the potatoes. But it was a bonus because I didn't know the buyin included dinner.

Once again another great job Jeff. You and your crew were at your best.

Nice event. A lot of fun, and well run. Only complaint, please invest in more smaller chips. Having to constantly make change in the small blinds really slowed things down.

I don't know why they gave the chip leader that much more money when he only had 300,000 mor ein chips. But I wasnt there. Just seems odd unless the guy was really wanting to keep going unless he got more.

Really nice tournament. First time I've played in one of those. I was surprised to learn there were 9 others. Not much publicity up our way (Dover, DE). I thought the event was as professional as an Atlantic City tournament, except missing the dealers. The tournament director was great, really knew what he was doing. I look forward to the next one.

Excellent event as always! For the record the "unknown" player bought in for $500 and was down to his last $125 after a few early missteps... :0

Great event again. I've played in every tournament at the Civic Center (I think) and although I was dissapointed with the turnout, I felt the amount was just right. From what I saw, read and heard, or lets say didn't, I think they need to learn how to promote the tournaments better. You always see all the other crap they hold at the civic center in the newspapers, on the radio and tv. I realize it cost money to advertise, but the last couple events have been word of mouth and here on this website.

Great job to Jeff and his staff!
